Yesterday, a group of Malaysian delegates came over to my place as part of reassessment of all universities in Russia. My uni is the 3rd one after MMA and RSMU. These people are ‘powerful people’ from Malaysia’s Health Department. Among present were Tan Sri Ismael Merican, our current health director and a few of his peers including an O&G specialist, orthopedics specialist and others. They all join some of the student’s class session in hospital and in uni. They said this visit has made them understand the Russian education system better but the most shocking part, they said our some of our knowledges are like the post graduates in Malaysia. Dah sini menghafal sane sini. Cuba try masuk class ENT Prof Kunop siang malam pagi petang menghafal his book trying to avoid failing his class takut otravotka yang membebankan. Here not like Malaysia.. gi class have to prepare or else if you fail certain classes (e.g. cannot answer when teacher asks you questions / written test).. must repeat the class which is very the hassle one.. Kalau cikgu tu baik he/she will try to avoid giving you 2 (fail) for daily class. Kena cikgu yang asyik nak kantoi budak.. Mati lah. Klaka .. sure diorang terkejut dengan cara orang Russia.. with the secondary shoes before going into the hospital departments and among other weird things which were quite pelik to us too when we first came here. But as what people said, alah bisa tegal biasa. My friend said diorang terkial jawab during surgery class and the Malaysian doctors were bewildered to hear about some of the Russian clinical signs for acute pancreatitis. Nama pelik pelik semua keluar.
A meeting was held in the evening later on between the 5th and 6th year students and them. During the dialogue session, I asked them about the shortcomings of the Russian graduates and on which area do we need to emphasize on as a preparation before we work later on. The answer is, as I have suspected, is on our practicals. Tan Sri Ismael Merican gave us a very inspiring speech. He said that being graduated with our Dr title is just the beginning of a life long journey and we must not be discouraged, and must have a sense of humility when we work later on. Medicine is a life learning process and I totally agree on that. Salute lah diorang ni.
Ok here come the best part. THey visited my room! After the meeting ended, we were outside and the Malaysian delegates came out from the pharmacorpus building. I asked them where are they heading to and they said..”we are going to visit your hostel”. I was like whatttt?! Ni confirm bilik aku kene datang sini. Dah kate bilik aku dapat tittle bilik contoh. Kekeke. So after a brief chitchatting with Tan Sri Ismael Merican, I excused myself and cepat cepat lari to my room to kemas kemas ape yang patut. Thank god bilik dah memang kemas. Poster poster ngarut memang cabut habis takut kene tiong hahahahaha…. Hid si kenit Liubi in Kak Hir’s unit takut commandent hostel nampak tak pasal pasal kene lecture. Everyone said my room cantik! Hehe. Sayang lupa nak tunjuk bendera malaysia the one we hang blakang pintu. They were kinda surprised to see that we have our own fridge, tv and so on. ANd I told them about how we need to pandai pandai maximize the space and make ourselves comfortable here like buying your own double decker as an alternative to the given hostel’s bed.
So, their visits here had clarified us on the most important thing. Our uni’s recognition and the medical qualifying exam yang diura-urakan. He said we dont have to worry about it and we should continue studying and prepare for our career in the future. Here I am thinking that my knowledge will never be enough or good enough.. the more you study, the more you will think that you dont know a lot of things.. Tak payah lah jadi genius. Genius genius gila pule jadi. My psych teacher told us that most genius people end up having a psychiatry problem. Did I tell you about this one 16 years old russian student who did 5th year medicine but ended up killing one of his groupmates during class with a scalpel because he said a voice told him to do so. Last last masuk lah Ickra…nun di hujung sane di sempadan bumi Kursk ini.
Wohoho excited nyer Tan Sri Ismail Merican visited our room!!! Hehehe.
